1.they messed up in that scene where they showed the letter that Musia received and instead the one that shows is from 0:03 episode 6 of season 2 where Licia receives a letter after the capture of Samuk Castle
2.Did anyone else catch the text on the letter that she received? It totally doesn’t match the accompanying dialogue haha!
3.Are you talking about this?
Now that you pointed it out, I am so confused!
Is it an animation error? Is Musia reminiscing about a previous letter? Was that someone else’s letter!?
4.ya, i was looking at it and wondering… wait a min, the heck is this letter about? Are they painting Musica as a spy of sort and this is some coded message?
Until the next scene plays out and hold up, nothing match with whatever the heck was on the letter…
5.I was expecting them to flood the river with magic, not block it off. But I suppose blocking it allowed for a cavalry charge they weren’t prepared for.
Not sure why Charlotte’s magic could suddenly hit though. Maybe the confusion from the water level change disrupted the shields?
6.I thought they were going to create a dam downriver from the invading force so they get flooded out. Not sure why they would rather use resources to dry it out when using the river to drown or cause water damage to the enemy camp would be much more effective.
7.I am at a complete loss. Wasn’t the whole point of fighting at a river to make crossing more difficult? Why are they damming the river?
‘Look! We’ve successfully changed the circumstance in the enemy’s favor! Now we can conjure some deus ex machina and suddenly 80,000 troops have to turn around because fireballs in a dried river basin is OP compared to fireballs on either side of the river.’
What am I missing? This episode was just far too stupid if this is what actually happened.
8.So the new Governor of Seitz just strolls unknowingly to anyone through the entirety of Missian to Castle Arcantez and back, gather troops after a civil war and instantly invade while Couran sits idle while having the upper hand…?
And the whole defensive pact with Paradille, which had this whole elaborate plan in case Seitz invaded is completely out of the picture? Did they just dip? Did they get forgotten?
And why did the Seitz Barrier mages suddenly stop putting up barriers as soon as the water stopped… wouldn’t it have been smarter to block the other side of the river so the waterlevels would rise instead of lowering them?
While i think the rise of our MC is cool the way these things are handled seem pretty boring and not really thought about.

1.Yeah, the animators were probably hoping no one at home would notice, but forgot about their English speaking audience.
2.It’s definitely the animators cutting corners by reusing animation from a previous episode.
Animators were probably hoping that the cut was quick enough, and the audience not being strong enough with either English or cursive writing to notice that the handwriting does not match what the character said
3.Do you know how difficult it is to find somebody who can write a whole letter in English in Japan? There’s only budget for one of those
4.My favorite time is when Zuko did it. Zuko best girl.
5.Playing Romance of the Three Kingdoms, I definitely have went to war just to get good officers.
6.The Nintendo Switch has a built in emulator for older consoles and I’ve been playing Fire Emblem for the GBA on it. When a character levels up each stat has a chance to increase with the percentage chance for each stat being different based on the character’s class.
Whenever I got bad rolls on stat increases upon leveling up, I would use the emulator’s built in rewind feature to undo the level up to either try again or give someone else the exp points.
7.Imagine the early days with Ars vassals fighting while his dad was alive. They were quite unstoppable. Though Ars dad, the superman of this world, died of just a disease. Imagine if Goku died because he got sick.
8.i’ve seen trebuchet and magical artillery being used as artillery
i’m FUCKING SATISFIED!! FUCK YEAHHHHHH
1.It’s hard to compete with the hair cutting trope. It communicates so much in so little time and it also makes a persistent visual change in a character so there is a very clear before and after for their character. This is also DEEP cultural foundation for Japan, it goes back many centuries. “A woman’s hair is her life” . A woman’s Hair represented status, youth, and womanhood so sacrificing all of that wasn’t just a symbolic gesture it was also a high stakes gamble.
We don’t really have a cultural parallel of our own.
2.It was also very symbolic as late as Victorian England as well, the thing of shorter hair came with pragmatics of the world wars and women entering the industrial workforce. It has been ingrained in every human society for a very long time since women while they would have worked domestically and more commonner women would have been doing field work and other crafts, they have been copying fashion rules from the nobility so longer haired women would have been seen as more desirable since they had that amount of time to attend to it
3.I mean that was kind of the whole point why they decided to defend at the river, river are quite dangerous for army in the medieval time.
The whole German army had to return home during the third crusade because Emperor Frederick Barbarossa drowned while trying to cross a river.
4.More like paradille was supposed to be the insurance policy in case seitz did attack, so I’m guessing couran would have sent word but think of it like gaining Russia’s alliance for a war while you’re at war with France and you’re Germany. Sure the Russians will come in to aid you but there will be a delay from when they can come in if you’re getting attacked today in the Rhineland
5.28000 vs 80000 is 2:7, should be easier than the 2000:10000 1:5 battle in the previous season but there isn’t a narrow path to equalise the frontline
But Canarre taking the initiative once again by utilising the terrain, Seitz’s soldiers didn’t know what hit them
I’m curious how many can Charlotte take out with her ultimate spell. Counted 38 fireball in one of the frames. In this episode, it’s estimated about 20 soldiers got burnt by one fireball and 80 knocked down by the impact. AKA Charlotte can directly burn 760 soldiers and knock down 3040 soldiers.
Strategically, a fireball panic can allow Charlotte to have influence about 5-10x her actual attack. Effectively, Charlotte can disable ~30000 soldiers with her ultimate spell for a short duration. If it’s a forest fight.. welp, enough glazing for now
Mireille’s attitude change is showing through and I love it. Russell pinpoints what the objective of Canarre should be, though imo they probably could defeat them. Licia trying to be sneaky but she forgot Ritz studied too.
Oh, I hate that it’s a weirdo that did it but it’s the first time we’ve seen an enemy acknowledge the rumour of his ability to see talents. Besides his vassals, have we seen an allied member acknowledge this?
6.The issue with the fire mages was range. If they could reach the enemy, the enemy trebuchets could reach them. Also, enemy shield mages could defend against everyones fire except maybe Charlottes, and even she has limits. Most of the enemy shield mages didnt go into the river because they thought they didnt need to.
You dont bring calvery to ford a river. They would be in the way except in this one particular instance. Also, being on horseback would have put their heads farther above the water, making them more vulnerable to fire magic.
The enemy didnt surrender, they retreated to regroup. Their plan failed and their troops were out of position. They will attack again soon.
Now its 20k vs 75k, which is better but doesnt mean much. Thats why Ars’s plan is to break their spirit instead of beating their army. Their forces will not be eager to ford that river again. Notice how Canarre’s force’s battlecry was for Canarre first and Ars second, but the enemy forces battlecry was only for their new governer? Loyalty to a new leader only goes so far, and if too many of them die they will mutiny. (In theory).
7.I’m guessing it’s about positioning and timing. Sure they could just throw fireballs, but then they would focus on shielding against it. The river is a two-way barrier, and they would just wait out the mages aqua magia reserves.
But they waited till they were halfway across the river then drained it, opening them up to a calvary charge, so they have to choose to retreat or put up shields, but probably can’t do both. As soon as they ran from the calvary that opened them up to fireballs. And there is no longer a river to put out the fires with.
The shock and awe of being caught in a trap is great for breaking their already low morale too.
8.I think what was happening was that, since magic requires fuel, the shield mages couldn’t actually advance into the river that far but since fire won’t spread in water they only needed to protect their forces as they entered anyway.
With the river gone the shield mages and their supply chain were in the wrong position.
A cavalry charge wouldn’t normally have worked on a muddy recently drained riverbed either so I’m also going to have to assume the fire magic dried it in places.
1.Vasmarque is making a deal with the governor of Seitz to take Canarre. It helps that the governor wants Ars and his Appraisal skill, and he’s got the large army and skilled talent to possibly pull it off.
Why is Vasmarque doing all this? Because ultimately he feels he’s the best choice to rule this land like their father did. It’s his brother, Couran, who is too distrusting for his own good. At least that’s what Vasmarque believes.
The OP is fitting and on-point as it features a fun theme as Ars and all his allies, past, present, and future, come together! All the while he’s chasing the heights his father, Lord Raven, believed he could reach along with Licia!
Canarre is in a dire pinch, surrounded by forces as they are. I’m not surprised Pham suggested just giving up, but Ars has too much reason NOT to give up to actually go through with it. They’ll fight and they’ll win.
It helps that Couran ALSO sees the value in protecting Canaree and sends Clamant along with several other forces to back up Ars! Mireille is also there because…well, she hasn’t even left for Lamburg yet, but still!
Count on Rosell to come up with a winning strategy! They can’t beat them in numbers, so they’ll capitalize on their exhaustion and lack of morale from past battle to get them to give up!
Zaht might be in this only for the money, but it seems like it might be for his little brother? Who he sees in Braham now?
Musia’s mom means well, wanting her daughters’ safety, but using her looks to snag a man to avoid fighting doesn’t seem like the path she wants to follow. Not when she sees someone like Charlotte who tries so hard to live up to all the faith Ars has in her.
Licia knows how to send her husband off properly for battle! And maybe throw in an extra hug because she can’t help herself.
Yes, Musia is a klutz who doesn’t believe in herself…but believe in the Charlotte who believes in you! And with the power of a character development haircut, she’s able to show off why everyone had so much faith in her! Great job!
Next week: Zaht and Braham focus episode.
2.Those 20k troops are definitely needed, Ars had some a lot of good allies.
Charlotte is a really good mentor, Musia just needed some confidence and someone to believe in her, it was a really good speel she was able to create.
Victory! The leadership and coordination are on another level.
I am looking forward to the next episode, looks like we are going to learn more about Zaht’s past.
3.Actual war animation is hype for this. Mom sending a letter that her daughter should come back from the frontline and instead settle down was understandable. I guess the first battle was won and will do huge moral damage to the other army. Assume that isn’t enough to win the war, but it’s a good start.
4.First day went pretty well for our gang. But it’s not gonna be easy routing a larger force like that. But at least they’re off to a good start. Plus morale’s through the roof right now since everyone loves Ars.
5.The animation production was really good, they’ve leveled it up a bit.
Licia always trying to cozy up to Ars, lol.
Let’s see how this battle goes, it’s probably going to go back amd forth a bit.
6.Oh no, Zaht has triggered the “see the annoying little brat as your brother” flag. I’m surprised we’re getting an episode on Zaht and Braham so soon, but I am glad we’re going to see their backstories, especially Zaht’s feels like it’ll be really sad. Musia also going through the “cutting my hair short as proof of my resolve” event lol. Reitz’s eyes scaring off the enemy commander was amusing, they’re far away from each other, but the aura he was emitting was that powerful lol.
7.I expect that’s what it’s meant to symbolize—she ruined the beautiful hair her mom complimented so now she has no back-up. Probably didn’t say it out loud to not make the Sakura resemblance as obvious lol
8.At least they made the cut look uneven for once. Usually, the character has a perfect new haircut after doing this. It’s a low bar, but that aspect made me happy.

(Ferdinand de Saussure)

I’m guessing it’s about positioning and timing.
(Sun Tzu)

The issue with the fire mages was range. If they could reach the enemy, the enemy trebuchet could reach them.
(Carl von Clausewitz)
