待ってくれ、オープニングで顔にひどい傷があったのは壬氏なのか？
一体どういうことだよ！？

２．Fucking CR! Anyone else have issues with the subs where if they tried to have two sets at the same time, the bottom subs for the person talking would disappear but the subs for the translated text would stay on screen?

Anyway, lots to talk about this ep, but first and foremost, MOM IS STILL ALIVE?!?! When we went through Lakan’s whole story and they finally reunited, they made it sound like she didn’t have long to live, but she’s apparently doing just fine? Dont get me wrong that’s great, but I’m just wondering if I misunderstood something.

So was mystery person at the start causing the locust with the weird handout? Or just taking advantage of the famine for something? I’m guessing spread a disease on top of the locust.

This show being what it is, just because Maomao specified that the manservant is a trusted guy…..I dont trust him now.

Was the person serving the Emperor at the end Jinshi’s mom? I dont think so, but they looked really similar.

Ok this is getting kinda creepy, this is the 3rd time I learned something, and then watched an anime that makes use of that. Like I’m pretty sure it was right after the last season ended that I watched a short documentary on the difference between grasshoppers and locust and how they mutate.

それはともかく、今回も話題が山ほどあるけど、何より驚いたのは、猫猫の母親がまだ生きてるだって！？
羅漢の過去が明かされて、ようやく再会したときには、もう長くは生きられないような描写だったじゃないか。
それなのに、今も元気そうにしている？
もちろん嬉しいことだけど、俺が何か勘違いしていたのかな。

冒頭の謎の人物は、あの怪しい配り物で蝗害を引き起こしているのか？
それとも飢饉を利用して何か企んでいるだけ？
俺は蝗害に加えて病気まで広めようとしているんじゃないかと予想してる。

この作品のことだから、猫猫が「あの使用人は信用できる人だ」とわざわざ説明しただけで……逆に信用できなくなってきた。

最後に皇帝の世話をしていた人物は壬氏の母親だったのか？
違うと思うけど、すごく似ていたんだよな。

それにしても、ちょっと不気味になってきた。
何かを学んだ直後に、それを題材にしたアニメを見るのは、これでもう3回目なんだ。
確か前シーズンが終わった直後に、バッタとイナゴの違いや、群生による変化についての短いドキュメンタリーを見たばかりなんだよ。

３．Wow, I didn’t expected to see Fengxian, still alive. It’s been a while since I have read the early LNs, and going by my recent rewatch of season 1, It was implied that she will die soon.

Glad, to see her doing well enough to have a happy time together with Lakan, playing go.

うわあ、鳳仙がまだ生きている姿を見られるとは思わなかった。
原作小説の序盤を読んでからだいぶ経つし、最近第1期を見返したときも、もうすぐ亡くなるような描写だったと思うんだ。

でも、羅漢と一緒に囲碁を楽しめるくらい元気そうで本当によかった。

４．Was not expecting to see all those Shisui flashbacks. Thanks for the breaking my heart again.

あんなにたくさん子翠の回想シーンが出てくるとは思わなかった。
また俺の心を引き裂いてくれてありがとうよ。

５．It feels like the animation quality got a small bump from season 2, its hard to tell. It might also just be for this first episode. One guy in the opening looks so much like Jinshi, but has a different scar on his cheek. I wonder who that is.

第2期よりも作画の質が少し上がったように感じるけど、はっきりとは分からないな。
第1話だけ特別なのかもしれないし。

６．You can really feel the aftermath of what went down last season. But we’re also setting things up for this arc.

With Chou-u around, Maomao kinda have to turn her gremlin down lol

It’s been a long day so I wasn’t really focused, will probably rewatch it in a day or so, but while I recognized a bunch of the returning characters like Ah Duo and Suirei, I can’t really remember what their status are and what they’ve been up to.

Also, Maomao’s mom is alive ? I thought she died from her sickness last season, Maomao did the dance and everything and Lakan had an emotional moment

趙迂がそばにいるから、猫猫もちょっとは小悪魔っぷりを抑えなきゃいけないみたいだな（笑）。

今日は長い一日で集中できなかったから、また近いうちに見直そうと思う。
阿多や翠苓みたいな懐かしい人物たちが出てきたのは分かったけど、今どんな立場で何をしていたのか、あまり思い出せないんだ。

それと、猫猫の母親って生きていたの？
前シーズンで病気で亡くなったと思ってたよ。
猫猫が舞を踊って、羅漢の感動的な場面まであったじゃないか。

７．So we start the season by seeing a famine caused by a locust plague, and then we see some weird woman giving something that I doubt is food to a guy in that affected area.

Oh, so Jinshi’s identity as the emperor’s brother has been revealed in the palace. Meanwhile, Mao Mao learns about the Locust plague thanks to her granny serving some for breakfast, which made Kyou-u Chou-u later remember that that’s a sign that there will be a really bad harvest that year.

You know, I want to see Chou-u with a dedicated kiosk to keep making portraits as some of his memories keep returning; I wonder if at some point he will remember who he was before?

Wow, I never expected to see that guard again. The face Mao Mao made when she told Basen she recognized him looks exactly like the Madam’s.

I love how Ukyou refuses to leave Mao Mao alone, because he knows if something happens to her, Lakan and Jinshi will kill him.

Well, I can’t wait to see Mao Mao telling Jinshi about what she discovered, so can they work together to stop the locust from spreading.

今シーズンは、蝗害による飢饉の光景から始まったね。
そして被害地域では、怪しい女が男に食べ物とは思えない何かを渡していた。

なるほど、壬氏が皇帝の弟だということが宮廷内で明かされたのか。
一方、猫猫はやり手婆が朝食に出した蝗から蝗害について知ることになった。
それをきっかけに趙迂が、その年の凶作の兆候について思い出すんだね。

記憶が少しずつ戻ってくる趙迂には、専用の似顔絵屋台でも持たせて、絵を描き続けてほしいな。
いつか自分が何者だったかまで思い出すんだろうか？

まさかあの衛兵が再登場するとは思わなかった！
馬閃に「見覚えがある」と伝えたときの猫猫の顔、やり手婆にそっくりだったよ。

右叫が猫猫のそばを離れようとしないのも好きだ。
彼女に何かあったら、羅漢と壬氏に殺されると分かっているからね。

さて、猫猫が発見したことを壬氏に報告するのが待ちきれない。
二人で協力して蝗害の拡大を食い止められるのかな。

８．A medicine that can heal your heart and erase all worldly pains? Are we actually gonna deal with opium this season? Whoever’s that person giving away free drugs, that’s definitely not the smile of someone with good intentions.

New OP is a banger! I love the funky vibes it’s giving off. And I absolutely love this shot of the Three Princesses. I need a creditless version so I can use it as my new wallpaper.

So does the fact that Jinshi also had Maomao in his mind when he was talking about the La Clan mean she’s officially recognized as part of the La Clan? Then again, even if she’s officially recognized, Maomao is probably just gonna reject and avoid it as much as she can. xD

It seems my guess at the start was off, and it looks like Maomao’s gonna deal with a locust plague first. Yeah, this isn’t good, especially since it’s happening right after the Shi Clan rebellion. People are gonna think this is divine retribution. How is Maomao gonna stop a plague, tho?

I didn’t think we’d meet someone from the fortress last episode. I honestly thought Jinshi and his men completely purged the fortress.

Ukyou is pretty cool. I remember him here and there in the previous seasons, but he’s mostly just a background character. I like how he’s giving Maomao a little lesson on how to deal with people, and how you can’t just threaten them to get everything you want. xD

The guard seems to be a pretty decent dude too. He also seems smarter than your average guard, since he sold the books and plans to buy them back later. He also knew the apothecary researching the immortality potion, so he definitely has Maomao’s attention.

So yeah, it looks like Maomao has no choice but to contact Jinshi and tell him what’s up. I can’t wait to see what title they’ll give her this time to let her back in the Rear Palace.

まさか今シーズンは阿片を扱うのか？
無料で薬を配っていたあの人物、どう見ても善意の笑顔じゃなかったぞ。

新しいオープニングは最高だ！
あのファンキーな雰囲気がたまらない。
それに緑青館の三姫が映るカットが大好きだ。
壁紙にしたいから、文字なしの映像が欲しいよ。

壬氏が羅の一族について話していたとき、猫猫のことも念頭に置いていたよね。
つまり、猫猫は正式に羅の一族として認められているのかな？
まあ、そうだとしても、猫猫は全力で拒否して逃げようとするだろうけど（笑）。

冒頭で立てた予想は外れたみたいだ。
まず猫猫が対処するのは蝗害らしい。
しかも子の一族の反乱直後に起きるなんて、かなりまずいぞ。
民衆は天罰が下ったと思うかもしれない。
でも、猫猫はどうやって蝗害を止めるんだ？

前シーズンの砦にいた人物と再会するとは思わなかった。
正直、壬氏たちが砦の人間を全員粛清したと思っていたよ。

右叫はなかなかいい人物だね。
以前のシーズンでもときどき見かけたけど、基本的には脇役だった。
人との接し方や、脅せば何でも思い通りになるわけじゃないことを猫猫に教えているのが面白い（笑）。

あの元衛兵も、かなりまともな人みたいだ。
本を売って、後から買い戻すつもりでいるなんて、普通の衛兵より頭が切れるね。
しかも不老不死の薬を研究していた薬師のことまで知っている。
これは間違いなく猫猫の興味を引くはずだ。

結局、猫猫は壬氏に連絡して事情を伝えるしかなさそうだな。
今度はどんな肩書きを与えられて後宮に戻されるのか楽しみだよ。

笑い・ユーモア系

１．Oh I’d laugh my ass off if the British ended up being the big bad this season.

China might’ve lost the opium war but that’s because they didn’t have maomao

もし今シーズンの黒幕がイギリス人だったら、腹を抱えて笑うわ。

中国がアヘン戦争で負けたのは、猫猫がいなかったからだな。

２．Man, Maomao would make one hell of a villainess. I would kill for an alternate universe story with that premise, she would kick so much ass and take so many names.

It’s a good thing that it was Luomen who raised her in the end.

More like, its a good thing for the royal family. I’m not sure many of them would survive the inevitable Maomao coup.

いやあ、猫猫が悪役令嬢になったら、とんでもなく恐ろしいことになりそうだ。
そんな設定の別世界の物語があるなら、何としてでも見たいよ。
敵を片っ端から叩きのめして、名を轟かせるだろうな。

結局、羅門に育てられて本当によかったよ。

むしろ、よかったのは皇族の方だろ。
猫猫がクーデターを起こしたら、生き残れる皇族がどれだけいるか怪しいぞ。

３．Lihaku: [to Maomao] I’m off to root. See ya later!

Not gonna lie. That got a good chuckle out of me. How quickly he switched from business mode to horndog mode.

How the dynamics have changed. After we’ve been blessed by the wholesome trio of Maomao, Shisui, and Xiaolan it felt very different with the absence of the latter two. On the other hand, we now have Chou-u, who somewhat played Xiaolan’s role as Maomao’s kouhai. Love how soft Maomao was towards Xiaolan, while she’s not hesitant to get physical towards him, much like how Hongniang was towards her.

That ominous voice at the very start. I could hear Reina Ueda’s distinct voice. Not sure what her role would be, but a couple of seconds of screentime was enough to tell me she’s bad news.

李白「じゃあ俺は一発やりに行ってくるぜ。またな！」

正直、あれには笑ってしまったよ。
仕事モードから女好き全開になるまでの切り替えが早すぎる。

人間関係もずいぶん変わったね。
猫猫、子翠、小蘭の仲良し三人組がいた頃と比べると、後の二人がいないのはやっぱり寂しい。
その代わり、今は猫猫の後輩として、小蘭に少し似た役割の趙迂がいる。
小蘭にはあんなに優しかった猫猫が、趙迂には容赦なく手を出すところが面白い。
まるで紅娘が猫猫に接していたときみたいだ。

それに冒頭の不気味な声。
上田麗奈さん特有の声が聞こえたよ。
どんな役なのか分からないけど、たった数秒の登場だけで、厄介な人物だと感じたね。

４．Maomao saying “it is none of her business”? Cmon. She is nosey as hell. She should just admit it and dive in instead of wasting time.

猫猫が「自分には関係ない」だって？
おいおい、あいつはとんでもないおせっかい焼きじゃないか。
時間を無駄にしてないで、素直に認めて首を突っ込めばいいのに。

５．It’s so funny watching her pounce on him and to wap and drag him around like he’s her lil kitten.

猫猫が趙迂に飛びかかって、ぺしっと叩いたり、引きずり回したりするのが面白すぎる。
まるで自分の子猫を扱っているみたいだよ。

６．The only people who can stop this plague are a man with one of the biggest frogs in the Empire and the woman who best knows how to handle said frog!

この災厄を止められるのは、帝国屈指の巨大なカエルを持つ男と、そのカエルの扱い方を誰よりも知っている女だけだ！

７．Incoming locust plague? that’s a -10 Mandate if I ever saw one. Better hope there’s no Unguarded Frontier on it’s way

蝗害がやってくるって？
こりゃ天命がマイナス10されるような大事件だな。
このうえ国境の守りまで手薄にならないことを祈るよ。

８．Catmao is back, and somehow she still can’t stay out of trouble even when she’s finally outside again. LMAO.

Lakan being perfectly happy just playing shogi Go with Fengxian and not even caring about attending the event with the Emperor was such a nice touch.

猫猫が帰ってきたぞ！
ようやく宮廷の外に戻れたのに、相変わらず厄介事から離れられないのが笑えるわ。

それに、羅漢が皇帝の行事への出席なんて気にも留めず、鳳仙と囲碁を打っているだけで幸せそうなのが、すごくよかった。

深い考察系

１．Since this story is fictional and takes place in a fictional timeframe in China, it’s hard to nail down which locust plague and famine this is supposed to be based on. There are at least three period of time where this show could take place, the Tang Dynasty which took place between 618 and 907, late in the Ming Dynasty which took place between 1638 and 1644, and around the First Opium War in the 1839 and 1842. All three periods had major droughts that may or may not have also included locust plagues.

During the Tang Dynasty, there was major locust plague called the “Xìngzhēn Disaster” according to Wikipedia and it took place in 784 and 785. I can’t find any information on it outside of what Wiki says. All it says was that millions died or were displaced.

The Ming Dynasty collapsed as a result of the Chongzhen drought which lasted from 1627 into 1644 when the Ming Dynasty collapsed. ~2 million people died from the famine.

Then there was a period between 1851 and 1873 where 10-30 million people died as a result of famine, flooding, and wars/rebellions.

Wikipedia says this show is more based around the Tang Dynasty but includes knowledge of things that would have only been available in the late Ming Dynasty.

I mention the Opium War because I’m like 90% sure opium in some manner was discussed/mentioned in this show and usage in China shot up around the First Opium War, even though it’s use supposedly dates as far back as the Tang Dynasty.

候補になりそうな時代は少なくとも3つある。

どの時代にも大規模な干ばつがあり、蝗害も伴っていた可能性がある。

中国で阿片の使用が急増したのは第一次アヘン戦争の頃だったし、使用そのものは唐代までさかのぼるとも言われているからね。

２．Oh, so it’ll be an opium arc now? Makes sense for the show’s setting. And Maomao’s new nickname is essentially “Big Sister Freckles”, which is great especially considering she doesnt have freckles.

On the negative side, it seems CR continues to get worse at subtitles, now forgetting how subtitles should continue through transitions to different shots…

And small thing, but I liked the detail that they gave the ex-guard brown rice at the Verdigris House, since white rice was traditionally a luxury

なるほど、今度は阿片を扱う章になるのかな？
この作品の世界観には合っているね。
それに猫猫の新しいあだ名が、実質的に「そばかす姉ちゃん」なのもいい。
本人にはそばかすがないのにね。

残念なのは、クランチロールの字幕がますますひどくなっていることだ。
カットが切り替わっても字幕を表示し続けるという基本的なことさえできていないみたいだ。

あと細かいところだけど、緑青館で元衛兵に玄米を出していたのがよかった。
昔は白米が贅沢品だったからね。

３．Lakan bought out Fengxian to marry her, making Maomao legal nobility. The La clan is officially neutral (and nobody wants issues with Lakan) so having Maomao officially serve either the Empress or the Moon Prince would be a political disaster

羅漢は鳳仙を身請けして結婚したから、猫猫は法的には貴族の身分になった。
羅の一族は公式には中立の立場だし、誰も羅漢とは揉めたくない。
だから猫猫が正式に皇后や月の君のどちらかに仕えることになれば、政治的には大問題になるだろうね。

４．Lakan has a stick up his ass about Jinshi because he (kind of rightly) believes Jinshi wants to «steal» her, so Jinshi has to be careful about that, and also succession is still up in the air, if the emperor croaks before Gyukoyou son comes of age its entirely believable that a former crown prince would take the throne. Of course Jinshi isnt that type of person but palace politics dont really give a shit about that

まあ、その警戒もあながち間違いじゃないけどね。
だから壬氏も慎重にならざるを得ない。
それに皇位継承問題もまだ決着していない。
もし玉葉の息子が成人する前に皇帝が死んだら、元東宮が皇位に就くという展開も十分あり得る。
もちろん壬氏は自分からそんなことをする人間じゃない。
でも、宮廷の権力争いでは、本人がどう思っているかなんて関係ないんだよ。

５．Even putting aside their personal preferences, a child heir is less of a threat than an adult heir as one has more power to force the transition.

Less threat to the reigning Emperor, sure, but a much bigger threat to the empire itself since an heir that is far too young when the Emperor dies would inevitably be used as a puppet Emperor by whoever regent gets appointed to rule in his place.

本人たちの意向を抜きにしても、子どもの後継者は成人した後継者より脅威が少ない。
成人した後継者の方が、皇位の交代を強引に実現できる力を持っているからね。

確かに、今の皇帝にとっては脅威が小さい。
でも、帝国そのものにとっては、はるかに大きな脅威になる。
皇帝が亡くなったときに後継者が幼すぎれば、代わりに統治する摂政に、必然的に傀儡の皇帝として利用されてしまうからだ。

６．She was really fortunate enough to end up with a great father anyway. She was probably better off being raised by Luomen, I can’t imagine Lakan being able to reign her in the way Loumen does. In fact, he probably would have encouraged some of her worst impulses given his desire to dote on her.

結局、猫猫は素晴らしい父親に育ててもらえて本当に幸運だったよ。
羅門に育てられてよかったと思う。
羅漢が羅門のように猫猫をきちんと抑えられたとは、とても思えないからね。
むしろ、娘を溺愛するあまり、猫猫の危険な衝動をさらに助長していたんじゃないかな。

７．Maomao is back, and eating bugs instead of snakes, ewww. She has got a reputation for eating weird stuff, even that former guard from the Shi clan was remembering her as the snake-eating girl.

A locust plague sounds nasty, but I am not sure there is anything Maomao and Jinshi can do to stop one if it happens.

Locusts and grasshoppers are actually the same species, but will change in appearance and behavior according to their numbers, starting to turn into locust swarms when there is too many of them. I guess the discussions about the grasshoppers mixed among the locusts and their influence on future crops referred to that, although I am not sure I really understood the details.

I didn’t expect Chou-u to be featured so much in that episode. It’s like Maomao now has a bratty little brother to look after. She would probably still trade him for his cousin Shisui in a heartbeat, even if he also has her talent from drawing insects.

猫猫が帰ってきたと思ったら、今度は蛇じゃなくて虫を食べているのかよ。うええ。
変なものを食べる女として、すっかり有名になっているみたいだね。
子の一族の元衛兵にまで、「蛇を食べる娘」として覚えられていたし。

蝗害は本当に恐ろしい災害だと思うけど、実際に起きたら猫猫と壬氏に止められることなんてあるのかな。

イナゴとバッタは実は同じ種類で、数が増えると姿や行動が変化して、大群を作るようになるんだ。
蝗の中に混じっていたバッタの話や、それが今後の作物に与える影響についての説明は、そういうことを指していたんだと思う。
正直、細かいところまでは理解できなかったけど。

それにしても、今回こんなに趙迂が活躍するとは思わなかった。
猫猫に生意気な弟ができたみたいだね。
虫の絵を描く才能まで持っているけど、猫猫なら迷わず従姉の子翠と交換したがるだろうな。

８．Chou-u completely lost his memory due to the resurrection drug, so it was decided he can’t be with the other children (who still remember their families). Because he doesn’t know anything, he’s not really a threat and can have a freer life than the others.

趙迂は蘇りの薬の影響で記憶を完全に失った。
そのため、家族のことをまだ覚えているほかの子どもたちとは一緒に暮らせないことになったんだ。
でも、何も知らないからこそ脅威とはみなされず、ほかの子どもたちより自由な生活を送ることができる。

感動・共感系

１．I’m so happy for Lihua that she’s birthed a healthy boy! Don’t believe we were shown the baby last season?

With rising tensions among the different factions, Maomao might want to steer away from the palace court for now. Otherwise she’ll find herself caught amidst political intrigue again.

Having Maomao spend some more time with her sisters at the Verdigris House is probably for the best in this regard. We haven’t really seen all that much of them since the 1st season either.

And I’d love to watch Lihaku’s love story with Pairin progress up close. His efforts were previously rewarded with a promotion at the army, but he’ll still need loads of money for Pairin’s betrothal gift.

梨花が元気な男の子を産んで、本当に嬉しいよ！
前シーズンでは赤ちゃんの姿は映っていなかったよね？

各派閥の緊張が高まっているから、猫猫はしばらく宮廷から距離を置いた方がいいかもしれない。
そうしないと、また政治的な陰謀に巻き込まれてしまうから。

そういう意味では、緑青館で姉たちと一緒に過ごす時間が増えるのはいいことだと思う。
第1期以来、三姫の姿もあまり見られなかったしね。

それに李白と白鈴の恋の進展も、もっと近くで見守りたいな。

２．So many bugs, and I think we’re doomed for a lot more bugs over the course of the season. Unrelated to those bugs CR was screwing up the sub timing a bit, I don’t think they dropped any lines but a number of them weren’t on the screen for the right amount of time/placement.

Gotta appreciate Lakan’s priorities, the government and world in general forced him and Fengxian apart too much already so playing games when her when and while she still can beats out anything else really.

Famines and locust plagues are everyone’s problem so Catcat will need to address this one way or another now that she has information on it.

虫が多すぎる！
しかも今シーズンは、これからもっと大量の虫を見る羽目になりそうだ。
虫とは関係ないけど、クランチロールの字幕の表示タイミングもちょっとおかしかった。
セリフが抜けていたわけじゃないと思うけど、表示時間や位置がおかしい箇所がいくつもあったよ。

それにしても、羅漢が何を大切にしているかが伝わってきてよかった。
国や世間の事情で、彼と鳳仙はもう十分すぎるほど引き離されてきた。
だから、鳳仙がまだ一緒に遊べるうちは、ほかの何よりも二人で碁を打つ時間を優先したいんだろうね。

飢饉も蝗害も、すべての人に関わる問題だ。
情報を手に入れた以上、猫猫も何らかの形で対処しなきゃいけなくなるだろうな。

３．Since I just couldnt wait and am light years ahead with LNs, I was pretty sure I’m not going to care that much about season 3. And then the music hit… And the VAs… And the fun little scene enhancements (sneak, sneak, sneak…) and I am right back. Man I love this story, this anime and all around it. Glad to be back!

待ちきれなくて原作小説をずっと先まで読んでしまったから、第3期にはそれほど夢中になれないだろうと思っていたんだ。
でも、音楽が流れて……声優さんたちの声が聞こえて……ちょっとした楽しい演出まで加わっていて……。

気づけばすっかり引き戻されていたよ。
ああ、やっぱりこの物語もアニメも、それを取り巻くすべてが大好きだ！

４．It’s great to be back but I miss Xiaolan and Shisui so much man ;_;

If it weren’t for them being pests, I almost want to feel bad for the malnourished locusts from how slouched they look in Kyou-u’s sketch of them (which also speaks to his surprising ability to both remember and draw them so vividly)

またこの作品を見られるのは最高だけど、小蘭と子翠がいなくて本当に寂しいよ……。

害虫じゃなかったら、趙迂の描いた蝗の絵を見て、栄養失調で弱りきった姿に同情してしまいそうだ。
それにしても、あんなに鮮明に覚えていて、絵に描けるなんて、趙迂の才能には驚かされるね。

５．I like the Maomao-Chou-u relationship. It’s kind of adorable how Maomao’s basically got herself a little brother now lol.

猫猫に弟ができたような感じで、なんだか微笑ましいよ（笑）。

６．Peak is back. I love the opening, the song is catchy and the animation is gorgeous.

Speaking of animation, is might be because it’s the first episode, but I got the impression that the animation was amazingly fluid. There were some scenes that were crazy dynamic.

The inner palace is full of intrigue and politics as ever. Jinshi surely can’t take a break from all the gossip, can he. Also can somebody please give Lishu a big hug. Being ignored by her father was such a dick move!

Maomao gets some slice of life with a good portion of foreshadowing. From what we saw in the opening and in this first episode I got the feeling that we’re going to have a wild ride this season.

最高の作品が帰ってきた！
オープニングが大好きだよ。
曲は耳に残るし、映像も本当に美しい。

作画の話でいえば、第1話だからかもしれないけど、動きが驚くほど滑らかだったね。
ものすごく躍動感のある場面もいくつかあった。

後宮は相変わらず陰謀と政治の駆け引きだらけだ。
壬氏も噂話から逃れられそうにないね。
それから、誰か里樹をぎゅっと抱きしめてあげてくれ。
実の父親に無視されるなんて、あまりにもひどいじゃないか！

猫猫の日常も描かれながら、しっかり伏線が散りばめられている。
オープニングと今回の第1話を見る限り、今シーズンも波乱万丈になりそうな予感がするよ。

７．Our loveable Kusuriya is back ❤️

After Tanya’s voice last season, so glad to hear Aoi Yuuki again.

Never expected this season to start with Locusts being the focus. Glad to see Chu-oh doing well. I hope the other kids are fine too. Maomao is looking after Chu-oh like a mother. Maomao isn’t giving upon the elixir of immortality lol

Lakan prioritising his game with Fengxian over his duties..As he should !

Even after the fall of Shi clan, other clans are fighting for power to fill the vaccum. Even Lihua’s supporters doesn’t love the idea of Gyokuyo’s rise. Lishu’s dad is an asshole. After giving up her kid to the former Emperor, he doesn’t seem to care how she’s doing. Thank Heavens she’s safe ‘cause of Ah-duo and the current Emperor.

What did the Emperor meant when he said that he wanted Yue(Jinshi) to pick a flower ? Find a woman ?

Yorushika’s op has a nice vibe and EVE’s ed AIYOU was beautiful 💖

前シーズンではターニャの声を聞いていたけど、また悠木碧さんの声を聞けて本当に嬉しい。

まさか今シーズンが蝗を中心に始まるとは思わなかった。
趙迂が元気そうでよかったよ。
ほかの子どもたちも無事だといいな。
猫猫はまるで母親みたいに趙迂の面倒を見ているね。
それに、相変わらず不老不死の薬を諦めていないのが笑える。

羅漢が仕事より鳳仙との囲碁を優先しているのもいい。
そうするべきだよ！

子の一族が滅んだ後も、ほかの一族が権力の空白を埋めようと争っている。
梨花を支持する人たちも、玉葉の台頭を快く思っていないみたいだ。
それに里樹の父親は最低だな。
娘を先帝に差し出したくせに、その後どうしているかも気にかけていないように見える。
阿多と今の皇帝のおかげで里樹が守られていて、本当によかった。

ところで皇帝が「月（壬氏）に花を選んでほしい」と言っていたのは、どういう意味だろう？
女性を選べってことかな？

ヨルシカのオープニングは雰囲気がいいし、Eveのエンディング『愛を』も美しかったね💖

８．I just binge watching Season 1 and Season 2 these past 10 days before starting. Definitely helped, I forgot just how much information and character stuff was covered especially in-terms of family trees. So excited to see where this season goes. I love how Maomao is still like I shouldn’t get involved yet she can’t help herself 😭 it really is her addiction to solve these things. I hope to get more Jinshi and Maomao interaction soon, the way the last few left off is kinda diabolical.

第3期の幕開けに、海外では猫猫の帰還を喜ぶ声が多く寄せられました。
鳳仙の再登場や、子翠と小蘭がいない寂しさ、趙迂と猫猫の新しい関係など、前シーズンからの変化にも注目が集まっています。
一方で、蝗害と飢饉の予兆、宮廷の皇位継承問題、謎の薬を配る人物など、今後の展開を予想するコメントも目立ちました。
今回は、そんな海外ファンの観察から「王権の継続」「記憶と自由」「好奇心」という3つの視点を取り上げてみます。

哲学から見るアニメ『薬屋のひとりごと』

「幼い皇帝は誰を脅かすのか？」カントーロヴィチの王の二つの身体

Even putting aside their personal preferences, a child heir is less of a threat than an adult heir as one has more power to force the transition.

Less threat to the reigning Emperor, sure, but a much bigger threat to the empire itself since an heir that is far too young when the Emperor dies would inevitably be used as a puppet Emperor by whoever regent gets appointed to rule in his place.

本人たちの意向を抜きにしても、子どもの後継者は成人した後継者より脅威が少ない。
成人した後継者の方が、皇位の交代を強引に実現できる力を持っているからね。

確かに、今の皇帝にとっては脅威が小さい。
でも、帝国そのものにとっては、はるかに大きな脅威になる。
皇帝が亡くなったときに後継者が幼すぎれば、代わりに統治する摂政に、必然的に傀儡の皇帝として利用されてしまうからだ。

哲学者：エルンスト・カントーロヴィチ

理論：王の二つの身体（The King’s Two Bodies, 1957）

カントーロヴィチは主著『王の二つの身体』で、中世からテューダー朝イングランドにかけて形成された王権の政治神学を分析しました。
彼が紹介する法学者たちの議論では、王には「自然的身体」と「政治的身体」という二つの身体があります。

自然的身体（body natural）は、老い、病み、やがて死ぬ生身の人間としての王です。
一方、政治的身体（body politic）は王の公的な地位を表し、自然的身体が死んでも後継者へと引き継がれます。
王個人は死んでも、王権そのものは存続するという考え方です。

カントーロヴィチが第1章で紹介したプラウデン判例集では、政治的身体には「未成年」も「老齢」も存在しないと論じられています。
幼い王が即位しても、法の上では完全な王権を備えているとみなす論理でした。

このコメント主が区別しているのは、「現在の皇帝にとっての脅威」と「帝国にとっての脅威」です。
幼い後継者には皇位を奪う実力がなく、今の皇帝にとっては安全な存在です。

そのため、家族のことをまだ覚えているほかの子どもたちとは一緒に暮らせないことになったんだ。
でも、何も知らないからこそ脅威とはみなされず、ほかの子どもたちより自由な生活を送ることができる。

哲学者：フリードリヒ・ニーチェ

理論：「非歴史的なもの」と忘却の力（『生に対する歴史の利害について』1874）

ニーチェは『反時代的考察』第2篇で、過去を記憶し続ける「歴史的」な在り方と、過去を忘れて現在を生きる「非歴史的」な在り方を対比しました。

第1節では、過去を持たないかのように、過去と未来の垣根のあいだで遊ぶ子どもの姿が描かれています。
人間は過去の記憶を抱えて生きますが、すべてを記憶し続けていては、過去の重荷から離れられません。
ニーチェは、幸福にも行動にも忘却する力が必要だと考えました。

ただし、忘却だけを理想としたわけではありません。
健全な生には、過去を生かす「歴史的なもの」と、過去に縛られない「非歴史的なもの」の両方が欠かせないと論じています。

哲学者：アウグスティヌス

理論：好奇心（curiositas）と「目の欲」（『告白』第10巻第35章）

アウグスティヌスは『告白』第10巻第35章で、知ることや経験すること自体を求める好奇心を「目の欲」と呼びました。
これは、感覚的な快楽を求める欲望とは異なるものです。

彼によれば、快楽は美しいもの、心地よいものを求めます。
一方、好奇心は不快なものにさえ向かいます。
その例として、見る者を恐怖させるはずの、引き裂かれた死体をわざわざ見に集まる人々を挙げました。
人は快楽のためではなく、ただ知りたいという理由で、不快なものにも引き寄せられます。

キリスト教思想家であるアウグスティヌスは、このような好奇心が魂を神から遠ざける危険な誘惑になると考えました。
