“I love Tanya’s shock while listening to that captured soldier’s reason for fighting. It turns out they’re not fighting commies, they’re fighting goddamn nationalists. Props to Visha, btw, for doing an excellent job with that interrogation.”
捕虜の兵士が戦う理由を聞いている時のターニャの衝撃が大好きだ。
結局、彼らは共産主義者として戦っているんじゃない。
とんでもないナショナリストとして戦っていたんだ。
それとヴィーシャには称賛を送りたい。
あの尋問は本当に見事な仕事だった。

“Mikhail acted like it’s better to be careful around Liliya, but he can’t say too much about it. And her getting onboard with Mary’s ideas so fast looks VERY suspicious.”
ミハイルはリリーヤの近くでは気をつけた方がいいみたいな態度だったけど、あまり多くは語れない感じだったな。
それに、彼女がメアリーの考えにあんなに早く乗ったのは、かなり怪しい。

“Honestly, after the first scene showing Tanya behind the illusionary wall I was starting to doubt whether it was really one until that post-credit scene with Visha coming through it. After all, until that scene, I really did not see a reason why Tanya had to hide herself from that guy, and if so she could have simply listened to the interrogation through the other room. But it is funny that the reason she hid herself was that the guy they were interrogating would not have taken her seriously.”
正直、最初にターニャが幻影の壁の後ろにいるシーンを見た時、あれが本当に壁なのか疑い始めていた。
ポストクレジットのシーンでヴィーシャがそこを通り抜けるまではね。
だって、それまではターニャがあの男から身を隠す必要がある理由が本当に分からなかったんだ。
もしそうなら、別の部屋から尋問を聞いていればよかっただけだし。
でも、彼女が隠れていた理由が、尋問されている男がターニャを真面目に受け取らなかったからというのは面白い。

作中に出てきた連邦領帝国占領地域は、かなりの確率でラトビアだと思う。
建物がラトビア議会の建物に似ている。
ラトビアを元にしたものがアニメで描かれているのを見たのは、たぶん初めてだ。
それに、あの偽イタリア国旗もかなり良い感じだったと思う。

“I havent read far into tanya to know her but she already gives unhinged vibes like i like Mary but i expected Lilya to smack her in the face or something, maybe shes like her boss maybe thats the thing. Something about the design screams “dont trust me” I think its hwo the jaw is drawn with the hair style perext mix for twisted smile”
幼女戦記をそこまで読み進めていないから彼女のことはよく知らないけど、すでにかなりヤバい雰囲気を出している。
メアリーは好きだけど、リリーヤが彼女の顔をひっぱたくくらいのことをするかと思っていた。
もしかすると彼女は上司みたいなタイプなのかもしれない。
あのデザインは「私を信用するな」と叫んでいる感じがする。
たぶん顎の描き方と髪型が、歪んだ笑みにぴったり混ざっているからだと思う。

“Friendship being the central theme for the episode felt strange for this show. I always thought Tanya’s relationship with Visha could be developed better. Maybe they’ll touch upon it this season.”
友情が今回の中心テーマになっているのは、この作品としては少し不思議な感じがした。
ターニャとヴィーシャの関係は、もっと掘り下げられてもいいとずっと思っていたんだ。

猫猫のカメオ出演、かなり神がかってて笑った。

彼女は狡猾だったり、ぶっ飛んでいたり、時には完全に狂っているキャラを結構演じているから。

くるみ割り人形ってマジで不気味なんだよな。

“This poor guy was clearly innocent; Tanya! he has nothing to do with Being X!”
この哀れな男は明らかに無実だっただろ。
ターニャ！
彼は存在Xとは何の関係もないぞ！

“What a missed opportunity; they could have given Tanya some cute civilian outfit and had her pretend to be another prisoner, put her in a waiting room with that guy, and get the information they needed by her using her child voice.”
なんてもったいない機会を逃したんだ。
ターニャに可愛い民間人服を着せて、別の捕虜のふりをさせればよかったのに。
あの男と同じ待合室に入れて、彼女の子供の声を使って必要な情報を引き出せたはずだ。

深い考察系

“Great ep, though it’s one of those episodes that filters out the people who watch this anime for the action. It’s a nice juxtaposition to real world events, since the Germans in both World Wars weren’t interested in granting autonomy to its conquered territories. I’d say it’s more like Japan’s ‘Greater East Asian Co-prosperity Sphere’ schtick, though that didn’t turn out well at all.”
素晴らしいエピソードだった。
ただし、このアニメをアクション目的で見ている人をふるいにかけるタイプの回でもある。
現実世界の出来事と対比すると面白い。
というのも、両方の世界大戦におけるドイツは、征服地に自治を与えることに関心がなかったからだ。
どちらかというと、日本の「大東亜共栄圏」みたいな建前に近いと思う。
もっとも、それも全然うまくはいかなかったけど。

“I gotta say, it’s an interesting angle on what the Germans could have done to buy some more time before their defeat, but history plays out a lot differently than in this anime. Giving up territory to civilian control is so uncharacteristic of Germany at the time, that it’s difficult to imagine them making that kind of decision.”
言っておきたいのは、敗北する前にドイツがもっと時間を稼ぐために何ができたか、という視点としては面白いということだ。
ただ、歴史はこのアニメとはかなり違う形で進んでいる。
領土を民政に引き渡すなんて、当時のドイツらしくなさすぎて、彼らがそんな決定をする姿は想像しにくい。

“We have to keep in mind these are 2 totally different germany / not-germany world wars. Germany fought to expand their direct control and literally get rid of ethnic minorities. Not-germany is fighting because they got attacked by everyone around them. While they ofcourse would like to expand aswell their desire for peace is not wrong itself since no one wanted this war, except being-X.”
これは完全に別物のドイツと、ドイツではない何かによる世界大戦だということを忘れちゃいけない。
現実のドイツは直接支配を拡大し、文字通り少数民族を排除するために戦った。
一方で、このドイツではない国は、周囲の全員から攻撃されたから戦っている。
もちろん彼らにも拡張したい気持ちはあるだろうが、平和を求めること自体は間違っていない。
この戦争を望んだ者なんて、存在Xを除けば誰もいなかったのだから。

“What does William Spaniel say about friendship in international relations? Something about nations having no friends, but only interests?”

国家には友人などなく、あるのは利益だけ、みたいな話だったかな？

“Tanya is actually right, it was another level of problem if the enemy isn’t Communists, but Nationalists. The past few years did really illustrate how dirty the wars can (and will) be if they involve nationalists… Visha definitely is a MVP here, her past history and interrogation skills definitely play a role in letting Tanya realise this issue and create a plan to exploit this to their advantage.”
ターニャは実際に正しい。
敵が共産主義者ではなくナショナリストなら、それは別次元の問題だった。

“Very interesting episode with parallels in real life. During the early days of the Soviet Union, Stalin relied in his propaganda actually a lot on patriotic and nationalist sentiments, especially on the Russians as leading ethicity in the country with a big dominion of the Russian language in the nationality policies. Nationalism is a strong force that and it is no conicidence that the German-Soviet War was called the Great Patriotic War in the Soviet Union and Russia. There was no action whatsoever this episode, but it was still one of the most exciting and interesting episodes so far. Instead of the battlefield, Tanya fought a battle in the political field. She realized that she was too focused on her own hatred and biases to see the real enemy.”
現実との類似があって、とても興味深いエピソードだった。
ソビエト連邦初期のスターリンは、プロパガンダにおいて実際には愛国心やナショナリズム感情にかなり頼っていた。
特にロシア人を国家の主導的民族とし、民族政策においてロシア語が大きな支配力を持つ形でそれを利用していた。
ナショナリズムは強力な力だ。
独ソ戦がソビエト連邦とロシアで大祖国戦争と呼ばれたのも偶然ではない。
今回のエピソードにはアクションがまったくなかった。
それでも、これまでで最も刺激的で興味深い回の一つだった。
ターニャは戦場ではなく、政治の場で戦っていた。
彼女は、自分自身の憎しみと偏見に集中しすぎて、本当の敵を見ることができていなかったと気づいたんだ。

“The non-brits said they wanted use the opportunity of the volunteer army to spy on the non-soviets. And you can be sure the non-soviets will try to do the same also through the volunteer army. Liliya is that person to make contacts, build trust and get every info she can get. Mary is to naive to see that and falls right into that trap.”
非イギリス側は、義勇軍の機会を使って非ソビエト側をスパイしたいと言っていた。
そして、非ソビエト側も義勇軍を通じて同じことをしようとするのは間違いない。
リリーヤは人脈を作り、信頼を築き、手に入る情報をすべて集めるための人物だ。

“She’s a political officer, ie a commissar. She’s there to keep the military in line with the Party’s directives. Of course Mikhail doesn’t trust her. Mary, being a moron, doesn’t listen to warnings from her superiors.”

感動・共感系

“That speech on caffeine definitely spoke to my soul, totally felt that from Tanya’s voice.”
あのカフェインについての演説は、確実に俺の魂に響いた。
ターニャの声から本当にそれを感じた。

“I am personally only in for the politics and grand sceheme of the war, everything else is an after thought to me. I believe this is due to the fact that very few other animes does this shit.”
個人的には、政治と戦争全体の大きな構図を見るためだけにこの作品を追っている。
それ以外は自分にとっては後回しだ。
それは、こういうことをやるアニメが他にほとんどないからだと思う。

“Tanya really earned that coffee. Her suggestion for command to change strategy probably saved the Empire in this losing war. It’s nice to have friends when you’re fighting the entire world.”
ターニャは本当にあのコーヒーに値する。
司令部に戦略変更を提案したことで、この負け戦の中で帝国を救ったのかもしれない。
世界中を敵に回して戦っている時、友人がいるのはいいものだ。

“Where would Tanya be without Visha, who has been with her since the beginning?”
ヴィーシャが最初からいなかったとしたら、ターニャは今どこにいたんだろうな。

“Turning over control to civilian rule is such a strong move, but it works! Glad to see Visha finally gets new pairs of socks and Tanya finally gets her caffeine fix!”
統治を民政に引き渡すなんて、かなり大胆な一手だ。
でも、それが効いている！

“I really like the imagery in which they show Hans while he was doing that propaganda speech to establish that alliance and stop the attacks on their supply line. Thanks to that, Visha got herself some new socks. It’s so funny seeing how happy Tanya got the moment Visha mentioned that they also got coffee.”
ハンスが同盟を成立させ、補給線への攻撃を止めるためのプロパガンダ演説をしている時の映像表現が本当に好きだ。
そのおかげでヴィーシャは新しい靴下を手に入れた。

ターニャはとてもドラマチックだ。
自分が好きなのは、小説で彼女が演算宝珠による精神汚染について長々と愚痴をこぼすところや、自分の子供っぽい気質がプロフェッショナルにふさわしくないと心配するところだ。

“Yeah, the empire might be thinking of betraying them in the end, but they should not do that any time soon. If anything, their best approach might be creating the voices for their friends to see annexation as a good thing. They need to win the war first after all.”
確かに、帝国は最終的に彼らを裏切ることを考えているかもしれない。
でも、少なくとも当分はそんなことをするべきじゃない。
むしろ最善のやり方は、友人たち自身が併合を良いことだと見るような声を作っていくことかもしれない。
何より、まず戦争に勝たなければならないのだから。

国家には友人などなく、あるのは利益だけ、みたいな話だったかな？

このコメントは、イタリアの思想家ニコロ・マキャヴェリが示した「マキャヴェリズム」、つまり政治的リアリズムと強く結びついています。
マキャヴェリは『君主論』において、政治の本質を道徳や宗教的善悪から切り離し、国家や支配者の自己保存、権力の維持、利益の確保に置きました。
国家間の関係において「友情」は永遠の感情ではなく、あくまで共通の利害が一致している間だけ成立する一時的な結びつきです。
今回のエピソードで描かれた「奇妙な友情」も、単なる善意ではありません。
帝国にとっては補給線を守る必要があり、現地勢力にとっては生き残るための政治的選択がある。
